Marquam Hill Audiology Grand Rounds - CEU Details

The current month's grand rounds info and CEU documents are below (see CEU information at the bottom of the page).

Date: Wednesday, June 4, 2025

Time: 12-1pm (Pacific)

Location: Virtual via Microsoft Teams

Presenter:
Jake Hulswit, Au.D., Audiologist and Tinnitus & Hyperacusis Program Coordinator, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA

Title: Amplification Considerations for Patients with Misophonia and Normal Hearing

Overview: Emotional disruption derived from misophonic response to trigger sounds can be greatly distressing and impair the quality of life and overall well-being of those impacted. As there is no cure for this condition, like tinnitus and hyperacusis, person-centered management is invaluable in successful management. Sound contrast reduction as well as psychological interventions aid in operant conditioning, with the goal of lessening symptoms. The use of hearing aids for misophonia sound management has not been investigated in detail and will be discussed today in comparison to sound strategy implementation without hearing aids.

Learner Outcomes: Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to:
• Describe misophonia and its impact on patients.
• Identify specific referrals and guidance regarding clinical mental health options outside of what Audiology can provide
• Discuss how to counsel and educate patients on options for amplification when it comes to misophonia and normal hearing.

Disclosure statement: Jake Hulswit has the following relevant financial disclosure: he receives a salary from the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, and the American Tinnitus Association He has no non-financial disclosures relationships to disclose.
