Adding CAPD Testing to Audiology Clinical Services in DOD and VA (by Lisa Guillory, AuD and Beri Ware, AuD)- This course will guide clinicians in determining the necessary knowledge, test materials, documents, templates, and supervision/mentorship to add CAPD services to their clinic. Information will include guidelines, seminar articles, where to find normative data, and suggestions for test batteries.
- This course will guide the clinician to choose appropriate tests for central auditory processing assessment. Various tests are discussed regarding test development, processes they assess, test sensitivity for Service members and Veterans, and interpretation of results.
- This course will focus on treatment of APD in context of interprofessional practice and holistic approach. A review of previous methodology will first be reviewed, then will be followed by evidence of an interprofessional approach and why this is a preferred method. Concomitant diagnoses most closely associated with APD in military professions will be discussed.
- This course provides information on interpretation of case history information and test results, and will guide DoD and VA audiologists in discussing the complexities of hearing health with patients experiencing subjective communication issues in the presence of background noise. Recommendations and additional referral considerations are discussed in detail.
- This course provides a discussion of current treatment options for auditory processing within the DoD and VA military health care systems. A review of relevant research is provided to support implementation.
- This course will explore strategies to identify peripheral versus central cognitive factors that may contribute to auditory processing deficits, or complicate assessment and treatment of auditory processing dysfunction. Information will include strategies to reduce the influence of higher cognitive dysfunction, and avoid possible confounds associated with peripheral hearing loss.
