| Resolving the Paradox of Hearing Complaints with a Normal Audiogram The purpose of this study is to develop a clinical test that can assess the strength of the neural connections between the inner ear and the brain. Subjects: Non-Veterans with normal hearing aged 18-35 or Veterans with normal hearing aged 19-50 that also have an auditory complaint such as tinnitus, hyperacusis, or difficulty with speech understanding. |

| Developing Tools and Care Path for Somatosensory Tinnitus This research is studying somatosensory tinnitus (ringing, humming, buzzing noise in the ears or head). This type of tinnitus is suspected when the loudness and/or pitch changes with certain movements. This study has two parts: (1) Create a screening tool for somatosensory tinnitus and (2) perform a randomized clinical trial comparing different treatment approaches for somatosensory tinnitus. Subjects: Veterans, 18 years or older, with constant tinnitus. |

| Mouse, Man, and Machine The purpose of this study is to develop a computer algorithm that can estimate the strength of the neural connections between the inner ear and the central auditory system in individual patients based on how they perform on several tests of auditory function. Subjects: Veterans and non-Veterans, 18 years or older, no history of a concussion, native English speaker, with normal hearing or a mild hearing loss. |
